Broadcaster, Fashion Icon & the Heart of the Isolation Nation Movement
Gok Wan MBE is amongst the most respected and recognisable personalities across media and fashion, with award-winning presenting on TV, critically acclaimed books and, more recently, the creation of the Isolation Nation movement. During the lockdown period of 2020, using his DJing and his passion for uplifting and uniting people, Gok took to live streams to give his legion of followers comfort, escape and sanctuary during difficult times.
Channelling his love of soulful, uplifting house, Gok used 2020 to press forward his foray into music artistry — teaming up with up-and-coming producer Craig Knight and UK songwriting and singing legend Kele Le Roc to release an up-to-date, energy-filled rendition of ‘Let Me Be Your Fantasy’. He rounded off a fast-moving 2020 by releasing his ‘Isolation Nation’ compilation, curated and mixed by him, on world-renowned house label Defected Records — preselling over 3,000 copies and leading to a subsequent Volume 2 — before releasing his first solo single ‘Right Direction’ on his newly minted Isolation Nation Records in 2021.
As the world opened up, Gok seized the opportunity to unite his Isolation Nation family further with a national tour, beginning at a sold-out Brixton Electric in London and seeing capacity crowds gather in Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow, all the way down to Torquay. The movement was buoyed by Gok’s own touring across numerous festivals and events — from the lofty heights of the Glade arena at Glastonbury, Pride London and Bestival to the intimate club settings of Pikes Ibiza, The Wild Corner at Hï Ibiza and the main room at Amnesia Ibiza, all to rapturous crowds.
He released the euphoric ‘All Night Long’ with Kumora featuring Kevin Haden, which appeared on ITV’s Love Island and reached the iTunes Top 40, as well as the charity single ‘Deeper Love’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, released after losing a close personal friend to the disease. Continuing his energy and vigour to this day and beyond, he keeps spreading his message of unity and love to all his ‘nationers’, touring the UK and lighting up every dancefloor and room he appears in.
